Tom began diving in 1972 in the Midwest. He became a PADI instructor in 1974, paying his way through the program by doing regulator and equipment service for Berry Scuba in Chicago. After teaching for Berry’s for a number of years, he branched out on his own with a 35ft dive boat on Lake Michigan for 9 years. He worked his way to New England in 1990 and opened Aquatic Escapes in April of 1997. His mission statement is and was “Underwater Discovery in Comfort” (comfort includes safety). For that reason it was decided at the beginning to limit class sizes to a small, intimate setting allowing more time for one on one instructor to student bonding. After all, the more comfortable and confident the student, the better diver (and customer) they will become. Towards this goal he built an on-site heated “dive” pool and purchased the very best scuba equipment available for students to use in training. Philosophically, he believes that one must offer the best education system available for the course the student wishes to take. A program that combines knowledge, skills, equipment and experience. He has affiliations with the top training agencies in the world. His credentials include TDI/SDI Instructor Trainer, SSI Instructor Trainer, PADI Master Scuba Diver Instructor, IANTD Instructor and former ERDI Instructor. Tom is qualified to teach from basic open water through advanced trimix and closed circuit rebreather diving. His personal philosophy in diving is simply “proper planning with proper knowledge, skills, equipment and experience determined by the destination desired……and after the dive a big “WOW”.
